Carmel Stewart

Carmel Stewart took up photography having been encouraged and inspired by her older brother fashion/portrait photographer Hugh Stewart.   Living and working in Athens, Greece in the late 90’s Carmel had two solo exhibitions and worked on her own body of work documenting Athens in 900 images.  She also worked for the British Archaeological School as a photographer and was contracted by businesses to photograph food and portraits.  Returning to Sydney Carmel continued to photograph and exhibit her work.  In Sydney Carmel was commissioned as a portrait photographer as well as using her skill to market business – everything from jewellery to pens!

In 2004 Carmel attended Sydney University and completed a Master’s Degree in Art and Education (MCAE).  Since moving to New Zealand in 2009 Carmel has worked as a photographer and teacher and she has been instrumental in the foundation of Soul Of Art Community.  A charity formed to offer art and educational experiences to young people in Tuakau  www.soulofartcommunity.co.nz .  Carmel donates part of her income from photographic contracts to this on going community project.
